Just updating. 'Cause the last one was a bit outdated.

Hmm, well, right now I'm procrastinating (not that a reader need know this) but I'm about to get started on a tesselation project for for math, so that will be fun. I'll likely upload it tomorrow. The guidelines were specific, so I'll have little room to make it interesting other than perhaps the color. It's a good chance to practice coloring with colored pencils--which, by the way, I suck at.

So, for those of you who don't know me, I do, in fact, ski.
Nordic skiing, to be precise. That means cross-country for all you folks who don't know the types of skiing.
Honestly, I must say it is one of the most hardcore and difficult sports I have ever known. There is no other that I have come across that pushes the human body so hard.
And the truth is, I love it!
I have found a sport that I love, that gives me a sense of relaxation and content after a hard practice. I have grown and changed in just one season, and I am now committed to this sport.
I joined nordic on a whim, really. "Hey, you should come to the informational meeting!" my friend told me.
Why not? I thought. It was Monday, I was bored.
I didn't know what I was getting into.
But I knew from the first day of hill sprints on rollerblades that I truly loved this sport, this team, the whole shebang.
Then, here's the kicker. We had a winter miracle--it had snowed in time for our first meet! Unheard of! Never before! But, it was true. A beautiful smooth coat of crystal blanketed the ground.
Now I needed skis. Unfortunately, my coach did not have any skis to rent to me. That means that I went out and got 2 brand new sets of skis (classic and skate), poles, and combi boots. A whopping amount of money. I was committed now, whether I wanted to be or not. It's lucky I love this sport.

The first day I ever skate skied was yet another Monday. I had classic skied once before, but skate was entirely new. They tell you "it's just like rollerblading".

It was nothing like rollerblading. I fell over 50 times that day. I did not know what I was doing. And yet, four days later, I participated in the first meet of the season. A 4.8k in 32:19 minutes. For those who don't get times, that's not what one would call good. Remember, I was on skis for four days, so I'm still pretty proud of that first race.

Enough of build up. Today was the last meet of my first season in nordic. Unforgettable. It was a full 5k race. Predictions were cold and to-be-dropping. The snow was in large Minnesota-flaky chunks, and visibility? Nada. As I skied the snow that whipped into my face turned instantly to water. Tears of snow poured down my face. My breath came out harsh and labored. Snot and phlegm coated my throat. My legs burned and my arms flapped desperately. I pushed and pushed and pushed, and I prevailed. 22:06 was the verdict. A WHOLE season, and I cut over 10 minutes from my first time ever. Over the course of 3 months full of sprints and hills and technique, I rose in skill and even surpassed some of my friends in time and speed. I was truly proud of myself as of approx. two hours and thirty minutes ago.

Let me tell you a bit about what we were dealing with. It was a tough course. Fun, but tough. Great downhills, hard uphills, a couple flats. Fun.
What made is hard was the fact that by the time junior varsity was out (they were the last to race, first 7th, then 8th, 9th, JV, boys -> girls always) there were 50 mph winds with large flakes of snow and temperatures dropping rapidly.

What does that mean?
We can honestly say that we have skied through a blizzard. Yes, a blizzard. It only made that day more "perfect" than ever. A truly momentous day that I will make sure to commit to memory.

So, I was just thinkin'. I always see a lot of these signatures that say:

I know that they're usually just something the person supports (usually positive), but still, it makes me want to put something in my signature that pokes fun of all of those signatures and their spawn.
